The story of the Auxiliary Golden Manor began in 1968 with the opening of Golden Manor Jewish Home and Services for the Aged. That year "The Golden Girls," a small but dedicated group of women, started their volunteer work. They formally organized on September 18, 1969 and established their goal to "enrich the lives of the residents through programs of volunteer services in the non-professional areas."
Today the auxiliary has grown to over 300 members. They are the Right Arm and the Heart of the home. Although their overall goal remains the same, their work continually changes to meet the needs of today's aging population. The scope of their dynamic efforts is visible throughout Golden Manor.
The Auxiliary has organized and help to fund:
Residents' kitchen
State-of-the-art beauty salon
Outdoor, wheelchair-accessible raised garden
Beautiful aviary
Playground for visiting grandchildren
Specialized equipment
Members of the auxiliary look back with pride to the foresight and commitment of the founders of the organization and to the many accomplishments of the past. One shining accomplishment is the group’s community cookbook, Simply the Best Recipes: Golden Memories. Sales of the cookbook supported the Resident Enrichment Programs at Golden Manor.
